Is hadoop suitable for java/j2ee developer?

I am from java/j2ee background and having 3 years exposures in hibernate,spring,struts.

Can i start learning Hadoop-big data which is modern technology in the software world?

Is I fit for Hadoop?

if yes what are the benefits over java/j2ee?
