Testing an ID3 algorithm in JAVA

I have just implemented an ID3 in JAVA. I followed the algorithm and I am printing the tree as rule conditions. However, I am still lost on how should I test the tree with (unseen) data. Should I traverse the tree without giving it the target attribute? Can someone guide me a little?
