Remote development environment. Hacking development workflow

Cloud solutions grow fast. AWS EC2 and DigitalOcean become cheaper and cheaper every day. Recently I had my workstation broken, and during working on weak macbook air..

..the couple of questions came to me:

1. What if to move development environment to the cloud?


2. What trade offs will be in it?

SSHFS does not look slow. I don't need most of IDE debug features. For tests - it's good to have dedicated CI server, that can be placed also in cloud.

So, looks like we need local environment only for offline work, or for something else?
