Should one devote efforts to learning C# in lieu of VBA, for practical purposes in Excel? [on hold]

I am a data analyst by trade and have background in RDBS, sql, ms server and excel is an everyday tool as well. I have OOP background (Java, python) but have never approached any .NET. Heard from a junior dev at my organization that VBA is on the way out. Is there any truth to this? I would not want to devote lot's of time to a 'gross' language like VBA when I could just use C#, to take my analysis and programming to next level in Excel.
