It occurred to me that many programming languages such as Python and Javascript are maintained by non-profit foundations. I can see why a foundation would update a free programming language- in order to make the world of programming more accessible and effective. But I can't see why Oracle, a large for-profit corporation would continue to maintain a language that is free to use. Is it solely out of the "goodness of their heart"?
