Is quality assurance a worthwhile career?

I am currently a third-year undergraduate Computer Science student. Recently, I have become interested in learning more about quality assurance but I don't have much information about it on a professional level.

From other discussions I have read online, quality assurance appears to have more negativity targeted towards it than developers. From my understanding, it appears that there may not be as much thought or effort required in quality assurance as there is in actually developing the software itself. However, I would like to believe that quality assurance also is interesting as it forces one to view the software from different perspectives (e.g., the consumer, developer, or even a hacker) and allows one to understand the implementation almost as intimately as the software developer.

I would like to hear others' thoughts, especially from quality assurance professionals - why did they choose quality assurance and why do they enjoy it? Thank you all very much; I look forward to hearing your opinions and experiences! I hope that this question will be informative for others to also gain more insight on these two different professions.
