So we're working on making some sort of large software project that we need to finish by the end of a full semester at school, and we have no idea what to make. The teacher is real open to pretty much anything. One group member would like to make an Octave (or Matlab) to Java compiler.. we do not have any background with compilers, all of us are (as i would like to claim) pretty decent at programming [java]. Is a compiler somewhat ambitious? Maybe an incomplete one that simply handles as much as we can complete?
A lot of the class is making gimmicky apps and we sort of want to do a little more. I just want some opinions from higher level programmers. If the compiler is too steep a hill to climb, does anyone have other suggestions :D ?
