How to learn Computer Programming

This is probably broad question and potentialy not a question as I am looking for an advice rather than factual answer. I will delete it if somebody thinks it is stupid.

I am a programmer and I like this work as it enables you to be creative and invent programs. The problem I face is that today there are many programming languages, platforms, technologies, API programming interfaces etc... which can be mind blowing to learn.

For example Web Developer needs to know, at least PHP, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, some CMS software, some, MVC software, several JavaScript libraries, a web server basics, MySQL programming etc...

Same for Java developer, there are ton of stuff to learn, not to mention .NET framework or C/C++ related things.

So I must develop a technique how to learn constantly new technologies to be concurent on the market. I am facing a problem to find a job since I worked as Flash/AS3 developer, no body likes me. :)

I started reading books recently, about 3 hours every day, reading at least a chapter and after that I do some coding practices. But I feel it is not enough. Not to mention, companies don't care what you read, they care where and what have you worked before.

Note: I also wanted to become a game developer, and I really tried it making my own ideas into 4 flash games. But this is also complex task and there are lot of things to learn.

Given my technique how could I improve and be faster in the learning process?

Or should I start switching to other related IT field as I am struglling with this issue for about 5 years? Time is money. :)
