How are centralized, silo'd, lone-wolf type of career opportunities distinguished from egoless, collaborative, decentralized career opportunities?

I am keenly interested in understanding how certain programming opportunities are distinguished from others in terms of the following dimensions:

• Ego investment (strong vs none)


• Code ownership model (shared vs strong)


• Collaboration (centralized vs decentralized)

These days it seems that egoless programming is all the rage, and in terms of a job search it's difficult to isolate signal from noise (bonus points for anyone who caught the allusion).
