Email server with public signup

I want to build a website through which people can sign up for an email address of the format firstname@lastname.xx for a monthly fee. Ideally email access will be through Roundcube or similar, as well as IMAP/SMTP. I have done a fair amount of research, and it appears that nothing like this currently exists. I would want to develop this into an open-source solution.

My question is looking for advice on where to start.

• Which technologies should I use (I am familiar with PHP / MySQL, as well as C#, Ruby and Python)


• Should I use a framework? Bootstrap? Something else?


• What would be the best way to interact with the mail server from the web backend?


• Should I use native Linux user management, or a database of some sort? Or something else?
