Can Free Software be used in conjunction with Proprietary Sotware?

I'm writing a proprietary Business Process Execution Software, can I use a BP Execution Machine that is licensed under the GNU General Public License (GPL) or it must be licensed under LGPL ? To be more specific: can I sell my software to my clients and install it along with the Execution Machine ?
